# Sonos 27.1 Is Here — A Small Update With Two Fixes Worth Knowing About
Sonos 27.1 started rolling out around October 6–7, 2026. The first sign was a Sonos staff post on the official community forum titled "Sonos 27.1 Is Here," followed by press coverage on October 7. If you're wondering whether it's worth your attention: yes, but for a specific reason — not because it's big, but because it fixes something that genuinely annoyed people.
This is a point release on the Sonos 27 platform. The version numbering itself is fairly new: Sonos switched to annual version numbers in 2026, and the base Sonos 27 release landed on September 8, 2026 with new navigation, Portable Surrounds, and early-access features like Headphone Linking. Version 27.1 is the first polish pass on top of that foundation.
## What actually changed in 27.1
Let's be straight about this, because half the "what's new" articles on the internet pad changelogs with speculation. Only two changes in Sonos 27.1 have been verified so far:
**1. Your queue now survives radio and TV switching.** This is the headline fix, announced by Sonos staff themselves under the title "Your Queue Now Survives Radio and TV." Before this update, the behavior was brutal: you'd have a playlist or queue going, switch to a radio station or flip to your TV input, and your entire queue was gone. Rebuilding it from scratch every time was one of the most complained-about behaviors in the app. Now the queue persists through those switches. If you've ever lost a carefully built-up queue to a football match or a radio detour, [our breakdown of the queue fix explains exactly what changed and how to confirm it's working on your system](/posts/sonos-271-queue-fix).
**2. The virtual volume knob arrives on Android.** Sonos 27 introduced a two-finger-twist volume dial for iPhone users. With 27.1, Android gets the same gesture: place two fingers on the screen and twist, like turning a physical knob. It's a small thing, but volume control is something you do dozens of times a day, and the slider was always a bit fiddly. [Here's how to use the two-finger twist on Android and iPhone, including where it works and where it doesn't](/posts/sonos-271-volume-knob).
That's the complete verified changelog. Sonos hasn't documented anything else, and the release is only a couple of days old, so no widespread problems have surfaced either. If a site tells you 27.1 includes ten new features, it's guessing.
## How to get the update
Sonos 27.1 rolls out through the normal app stores — there's nothing to download from Sonos directly and definitely nothing to sideload. On iPhone, open the App Store, tap your profile, and pull down to refresh; on Android, open Google Play, tap your profile picture, and check under "Manage apps & device." [Our step-by-step guide covers updating on both platforms, plus what to do when 27.1 doesn't show up yet](/posts/sonos-271-whats-new). If you've already got automatic updates on, you may be running 27.1 without realizing it — you can check your version in the app's settings.
One thing worth knowing: app updates roll out in waves, not to everyone at once. If your neighbor has 27.1 and you don't, that's normal. Give it a day or two before worrying.
## Which speakers and systems get it
Sonos 27.1 is an update to the modern Sonos app, which means it's for S2 systems. If your setup still runs on the Sonos S1 Controller — the oldest hardware like the original Play:5, Connect, or Bridge — this release doesn't apply to you, and you should keep using the S1 app. [Our compatibility guide walks through exactly which products are S2, how to check what you're running, and what S1 users should do instead](/posts/sonos-271-compatibility).
## Why a quiet fix release is newsworthy
It might seem odd that a two-item changelog gets this much attention. The context is Sonos's 2024 app redesign, which was — to put it mildly — a disaster. Features broke, basic functionality went missing, and it took months of painful updates to recover. Since then, the Sonos community watches every release closely, and trust is still being rebuilt. Against that backdrop, a small release that arrives cleanly and fixes a real, widely-hated annoyance is exactly the kind of steady progress Sonos needs. The reaction to the queue fix has been genuinely positive, which tells you how much that particular bug stung.
## No reported problems so far
As of now, there are no verified issues with 27.1. That could change — it's early — but nothing has surfaced in the community forums or press coverage yet. If you do run into something, [start with our troubleshooting page](/troubleshooting) before assuming the worst; most update hiccups turn out to be staged rollouts or a stuck store cache rather than real bugs.
## What's coming after 27.1
Sonos has already sketched out what's further down the road. On the announced roadmap: Presets, a Sonos 27 voice assistant, and system health views. None of that is in 27.1, but it's useful context for where the platform is heading — [we've collected everything Sonos has said about what's next](/posts/sonos-271-whats-next).
## Common questions, answered briefly
**Is Sonos 27.1 out yet?** It's rolling out now — it started appearing around October 6–7, 2026. If you don't see it, wait a day or check the [troubleshooting steps](/posts/sonos-271-update-not-showing).
**Is it a big update?** No. Two verified changes: the queue fix and the Android volume knob. It's polish, not a redesign.
**Should I update right away?** There's no reason not to. No issues have been reported, and the queue fix alone is worth having.
**Do I need new speakers?** No — it's an app update for S2 systems, not a firmware change requiring new hardware.

Got the update this morning here in Chicago — the pull-down refresh in the App Store trick worked, it wasn't showing until I did that. Queue fix confirmed working too.

Does the two-finger twist work from the lock screen widget or only inside the app itself? Couldn't get it to trigger from the notification shade.
The queue wipe was the single most annoying thing about this app for me. Lost a whole dinner playlist to a football match last month. Glad they finally fixed it.
